Billing
Who counts as a restricted seat, how the 14-day Pro trial works, checkout, invoices, cancelling and what happens when a payment fails.
Short answer: You pay for restricted people, not for your core team. Pro is $29 per restricted person per month, or $24 per month billed yearly. Full-access teammates and AI agents are free. The first restricted person starts a 14-day Pro trial with no card.
Who counts as a seat
A person counts once, however many repositories they are in, when their access is less than everything in at least one repository. A restricted group counts its members even if a restrictive rule does not match a file today. Admins and full-access teammates do not count. Agent tokens never count; an account with no person behind it that you restrict counts as one restricted person.
Pro has a one-seat minimum. With no restricted people you are billed for one seat.
Plans
- Free: 1 repository, your full-access team and everyone's AI agents. No restricted people.
- Pro: unlimited repositories, restricted people at the seat price, unlimited agents.
- Enterprise: SSO and SCIM, audit streaming, DPA, priority support, annual invoicing, Fenced CI and a self-hosted option. Contact us.
Steps
- Open Billing. Choose Billing in the organization.
- Choose a period. Under Billing period, choose Monthly or Yearly, save 17%.
- Check out. Choose Upgrade to Pro, or Subscribe to Pro during the trial. You finish on Polar's secure checkout page, then return to Gitfence.
- Manage it later. Choose Manage billing to open the Polar customer portal. Use it to update the card, change between monthly and yearly, download invoices and cancel.
- Watch the usage. Restricted people, AI agents and Repositories show what is in use. Adding or removing a restricted person updates the subscription automatically, prorated.
Trial and lapse
The trial starts with the first restricted person or invitation. It is once per organization and per owner GitHub account. When it ends unpaid, nobody new can be added and restricted people keep working for 5 more days. After that their access is paused until you subscribe; full-access teammates are unaffected.
If a payment fails or a subscription is cancelled, the banner Your last payment didn't go through. Update your card under Manage billing to keep Pro. appears. Pro limits stay for 14 days, then restricted people are paused. Renewing restores their access as it was.
Gotchas
- Gitfence does not keep an invoice list of its own. Invoices and receipts are in Manage billing.
- There is no Cancel button in Gitfence. Cancel from Manage billing; cancellation timing follows Polar's subscription state.
- Paused access stops new clones, pulls, pushes and MCP calls. It does not erase a clone already on someone's machine.
- A self-hosted server has no billing page. Its seats come from the signed license file, counted the same way: restricted people only. See self-hosting.
Next: getting started.
